Developing DRC – improving what we do

Waiting for electrical repairs

In the last few months, we have been fortunate to have busy repair sessions, and sometimes folk have had to wait to see a repairer, particularly for electrical items. We know this can be tiresome, and we’re looking at ways to smooth the system, including adding a new expert repairer—Welcome to Ross!

We’ve also discussed changing from our first-come, first-served format to a bookings-only system. However, we feel the latter would have undesirable effects—such as reducing the number of people we could see each session, and losing the friendly chat around the tea table.

So with your cooperation, we’re trying something else: we’re restricting folk to having only one item fixed per night. You canbring more than one, but extra items won’t be looked at until everyone’s first item has been seen.

You can also help by emailing in advance if you intend to bring one of the items in the second group at What do we fix? (previous page). Although our repairers are super clever and experienced, some items break in complex ways, especially the listed items, so your advance information gives us a head start.

Digital donations

We are always grateful to receive contributions to our cash donations box, to help cover running costs such as hall hire, insurance, equipment and
ea supplies. To move with the times, we will be trialling methods for cashless payments via smartphone, starting at the November café. As always, we will be keen to receive your feedback on this service, either in person, or email hello@dairsierepaircafe.org.uk

Have your say

Finally, we encourage anyone with ideas, comments, or requests to email them, or to bring them to the 2026 AGM, on 29 April, at 5.30pm.
